Malua BioBank covering 34,000 hectares of rainforest, stores an estimated 15 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.

Loss of the forest would release huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and so the conservation plan focuses on restoring the rainforest to close the canopy cover to prevent devastating wildfires.

Clearing of tropical rainforests is estimated to release between 8-15% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, which is more than emissions from all the cars, trucks, and planes in the world combined and is a huge contribution to climate change.
